I towed a 9k lb Deere skid steer on my 5900 lb PJ 25' gooseneck trailer with my '13 F150 (with airbags and a tune) quite a few times without issue. Like you my tows with it were short. I am getting ready to buy a 2015 F-350 but have had some warnings that it may not suit my needs. I am planning on buying a 2015 F-350 Super Duty with Powerstroke Diesel and SRW. Ford says the towing capacity on that is 14K with bumper and 15900 with 5th wheel/gooseneck. GCWR is 23500 according to what I have read. If I was to purchase a used F250 or F350 diesel and tow with it either a drop deck equipment trailer or a dump trailer rated at 14- 16,000 lbs. I've only towed a 2500# trailer with a 6000# skid steer so far. Lots of unusable power because of the egt's on steep inclines. I'm not pushing 400hp at the tires but I'm pretty sure I'm somewhere in the 300's. Yea your truck should handle that pretty easy with just a skid steer. That’s like what 12k total weight your pulling? I’ve pulled that and more up a 34% grade on a part of my road in a pasture but wasn’t trying to go 40mph. Is your turbo spooling and do you have boost. You should be getting a bunch of boost to push you up that hill.
Lately I've noticed a lot of guys with their plow trucks towing equipment trailers with skid steers and tractors during the snow storms. I just don't like the idea.but I like the idea of using a loader for these snow banks! k rig that is a daily driver.ya know the F350 Lariat supercab/shortbed with heated seats. Hire the dozer moved by someone with the equipment to do it safely. Or buy the proper equipment to do it yourself. Towing that dozer with a SRW F350 makes you a hazard to everyone else on the road. F-350 Dually 1 ton dump, 7.3 diesel automatic usually tows the ~7K T190 or 331 MiniX. We just upgraded the 331 to the new 335 model which is a little over 9K. I haven't towed that yet though.
