How do you like the Deutz engine in your Gehl skid steer? Looking for a Gehl skidder, just cause that's what I'm used to. Everything in my size/price range seems to have a Deutz. #1. A Gehl 5240 with a 4-cylinder Deutz engine. It is water cooled. The first UOA I did on this unit was at 500 hours which the OEM recommends. That one turned out great so took a sample at 750 hours w/o changing oil and then I changed the oil at 1000 hours. Using Service Pro or Shell Rimula 15w-40. Hours 500, 772, 996. O Chn Y, N, Y. Pull the glow plugs out of all 4 cylinders. Then use a wrench, socket or what ever and turn it over clockwise from the back end, side with the timing belt. If it turns over easy then try it with the starter. Try that and see what happens. EPU has the Deutz manual 5 or 6 pages on the proper way to set the timing.
