I charge 400/day plus the operator cost. That's about the same as the rental sites in our area charge to rent a bobcat with a trailer, but even if you rent it you still need a truck to haul it. Not to mention I can do in 2hrs what it would take most homeowners 4 hrs to do, and with a lot less collateral damage. Jim L

I'm kinda surprised you guys can get 0/day w/ a skid steer. A full size 4 wheel drive front end loader w/ hoe goes for 0/day w/operator. The way we normally charge for skid steer work is 0.00/day for the equipment/fuel, plus /hr for the operator. For a 10hr work day this would give you a total cost of 0.00 (which would work out to /hr). Where this is more advantageous for us is for smaller jobs. A 4hr project would run 0 (which is about 5/hr). I don't think it's the contractors who are rough on rental, although some are, but I really think it's more the weekend warriors. They go out and rent the smallest/ cheapest machine and try to do things with a skid steer you need a PC 300 to do. They have no background knowledge of machine and truly beat the living hell out of them.
I think you need to charge the rental fee of a skid steer plus the labor it takes to operate one. So I would say 0 upfront and - an hour even if you own the skid steer. If you are an ace w/ a bobcat(not me) then I would charge near 0. If you can't charge the customer for the "rental fee" then you aren't making enough to take the job .
I would look at the Takeuchi/Gehl/Mustang tracked units. I have a friend that has one and the cabs are huge. Gehl and Mustang brand the Takeuchi so I don't think their skid steer cabs are as large. The only drawback that I've heard about is the short track life. My friend has been through a couple sets of tracks in a little over 1400 hours. Pay to run a skid steer depends on how much experience you can price you have running one. /hr would be a guy who’s good at it and makes decent production rates. If you call the guy and ask how to turn it on Where’s the button to release the parking brake and where does fuel go? /hr

A tractor with a loader and box blade or York rake will work better for anyone except an experienced skid steer operator. 200 yards seems like an awful lot of dirt for 27000 sf That's approx. 12 tandem loads.

Because, as the skid steer gets larger so do all of the components, pins and bushings, engine, drive chains, axles and steel thickness. I have seen the larger skid steers, JD .
