Trailer with 2-7k axles, I'll try to stay at 14,000 or less. Tandem dual trailer 2-10k axles, 20,000 payload. Pulling with 1 ton pickups dually or srw. Have made it to 40k gross on tandem dual trailer, tare is 15,xxx, oops a little overloaded. We have a backhoe that would probably lift one side at a time to put planks under the tracks but not the whole thing. I am of the opinion that a mini-excavator is superior to any backhoe in every comparison except traversing distances greater than 50 yards. There are many things a mini can do that a backhoe could not even begin to do. Also, a mini, single-axle dump truck, and trailer will not cost a whole lot more than a backhoe by itself. I have an IR ZX-75. Same as a Bobcat 442. It’s an 8 ton machine, with 2 speed and a 2 way blade. Really love it, much better IMO than a backhoe. Backhoes move easier down the road, but don’t dig as fast. I move mine on a deck over trailer, as my Bobcat trailer is too narrow between the wheel wells.

For a trailer 24' or longer gooseneck is the way to go. We have a 25+5 gooseneck with two 10,000lb axles and we just bought a used 16+2' 12,000lb skid steer trailer for hauling our skid steer on. In my opinion that gives us the best of both worlds, a big trailer for big stuff and a little trailer for smaller stuff.

I’d like to hear some facts and or opinions on mini excavators. I’m interested in a used machine in the 10,000 to 12,000 pound range. Bobcat, John Deere or Kubota are carried by local dealers but no used ones on the lot. It would be used for conservation work and repair.
